WHAT TO EXPECT
before, during, and after surgery

pre-operative

Expect to receive a phone call from a registered nurse at MESC to review your health history. Please have a current list of your medications ready, as well as a list of any questions you may have. You will be given detailed instructions on how to prepare and what to bring for your procedure.

Depending on the time and procedure type, you may be told the following:

  1. Do not eat or drink after midnight the night before your procedure.
  2. You must have a driver present with you the day of surgery.
  3. Bring your insurance cards and identification.
  4. Plan for someone to be home with you following your procedure if sedation was administered.

You will see a registered nurse,anesthesiologist, and your surgeon, among other support staff, prior to your procedure. Your surgical team will ensure safety and comfort from start to finish. If you have any questions they can be answered at this time.

Instructions will be given to you and your driver. You will be provided information on what to expect upon discharge. Plan on resting for the remainder of the day after the surgery. In most cases, a follow-up appointment will take place the following day.

The Michigan Eye Surgery Center is located on the back side of Michigan Eye Institute’s Flint office. Surgeries take place here from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday for our MEI patients from the Flint, Fenton, Lapeer, Grand Blanc, and Lake Orion locations.
