Important Update: New Survey Process for Patient Feedback

Beginning January 2025, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has implemented an important change in how patient experience is measured at all Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs). As part of this national initiative, all ASCs are now required to use an independent, CMS-approved third-party vendor to administer the OAS CAHPS (Outpatient and Ambulatory Surgery Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) survey.

This survey plays a critical role in helping ASCs like ours evaluate and improve the quality of care and services provided to patients.

What This Means for You

After receiving care at our surgery center, you may be contacted to complete a short survey about your experience. Surveys may be delivered through one of the following methods:

  • Email
  • Postal mail
  • Phone call

Participation is voluntary, but your feedback is incredibly valuable. Your honest responses help us:

  • Understand your experience as a patient
  • Identify opportunities to improve our care
  • Comply with national quality reporting standards

We want every patient to feel heard and respected—and this survey is one of the key ways we ensure that.

For more information about the survey process, visit the official CMS website at www.oascahps.org.

What to Expect From Your Procedure

Consultation

You’ll begin prepping for your procedure with a call from a friendly BEC registered nurse to review your health history. Here, you’ll provide us with a current list of your medications and use this time to ask any questions you may have on the treatment process, as we’ll be giving you detailed instructions on how to prepare and what to bring.

Depending on the time and type of procedure, you may be told the following:

  • Don’t eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your procedure
  • Have a driver with you the day of surgery
  • Bring your insurance cards and identification
  • Plan for someone to be home with you following any sedated procedure

Treatment

You will see your registered nurse, anesthesis (CRNA), surgeon, and other support staff members before the start of your procedure to answer any remaining questions. This team will work to maximize your safety and comfort from the start of your treatment to its finish.

Recovery

You and your driver will receive instructions for the remainder of the day and information on the recovery process. In most cases, you’ll come in for a follow-up appointment the next day so that we can check the initial recovery progress.
