Flint Physician Receives 1st Blade-Free LASIK in Mid-Michigan

Dr. Diskin’s Michigan Eye Institute office is the first and only medical practice north of Detroit to have this cutting edge technology.

Flint—David K. Diskin, MD, Ophthalmologist and Co-Owner, Michigan Eye Institute in Flint just received the first and newest technology in the LASIK world – only this time, the IntraLase Method™ is a 100 percent blade-free approach. Dr. Diskin’s Michigan Eye Institute office is the first and only medical practice north of Detroit to have this cutting edge technology. Michigan Eye Institute has offices in Flint, Fenton, Lapeer, Oxford and Grand Blanc.

This is the first advancement to make LASIK an all-laser procedure. The IntraLase Method™ uses tiny, rapid pulses of laser light to create your corneal flap – instead of using a metal blade – during the first step of LASIK. The IntraLase laser has also been shown to provide better than 20/20 visual outcomes.

“This exciting new technology has changed the face of eye surgery today. Patients are so relieved to hear about the safety and results provided by the IntraLase Method™. It virtually eliminates site-specific complications that are associated with using a blade,” according to Dr. Diskin.

Using the latest IntraLase laser technology, your corneal flap can be made fast – in only about 15 seconds per eye. Including preparation time, the entire LASIK procedure takes about 10 minutes. Once the entire procedure is completed, the corneal flap created with the IntraLase Method™ “locks” back into position.

The IntraLase laser has many advantages, including better vision, and the ability to tailor the procedure to your eye. The IntraLase Method™ enables your physician to tailor the flap according to the shape of your eye. Everything from the diameter of your flap to the angle of its edges can be precisely determined. This is important because everyone’s eyes are shaped a little differently.

To date, more than one million IntraLase procedures have been performed around the world. Dr. Diskin has been performing refractive surgery for the past fifteen years.
