Michigan Eye Institute - A Tradition of Excellence

Michigan Eye Institute has its roots in the practice established by Dr. Fleming Barbour in 1940. This Flint-area ophthalmologist developed one of the finest eye care practices in the country. He became associated with Dr. David VerLee who later formed Genesee Medical Eye Center.

In 1991 Drs. Diskin, Diskin and Keoleian joined Dr. VerLee's practice. One of their top priorities was to maintain the tradition of excellence in eye care established by Drs. Barbour and VerLee.

Assembling a highly skilled eye care team was key to fulfilling that goal. Our doctors reflect the highest echelons of eye care training and are unparalleled in their collective expertise and experience. Together they represent the best in eye care today.

The next step was to re-define the availability of eye care resources in our region. We worked hand-in-hand with hospitals, teaching institutions, and primary care physicians to increase the presence and level of ophthalmology services. To that end, local hospital operating rooms are now fully equipped for eye surgery. We have resident physicians who rotate through our offices as part of their medical training. And we have Eye M.D.s (ophthalmologists) who are available 24 hours a day to handle eye emergencies.

The most important step was to deliver high quality patient care. Our entire staff is dedicated to assuring that patients are comfortable in our care and fully informed about their conditions. We respect our patients and make their satisfaction our highest priority.

Today, Michigan Eye Institute is a fully integrated eye care practice. We have state-of-the-art facilities in five convenient locations. These facilities accommodate every aspect of primary and specialty eye care - from examination and treatment to optical services - under one roof. We have privileges at all leading area hospitals for consultation and surgery.
